Data Linkage Strategy 2025-30 launched
The WA Health Data Linkage Strategy 2025–30 will establish Western Australia’s position as the national leader in data linkage, with a vision to advance the health and wellbeing of Australians and make a positive, transformative impact on population health.
Effective data linkage can transform fragmented information into a valuable, connected asset that provides a rich picture of person’s interactions across services, this supports innovation, improves service delivery, and delivers significant benefits to our community.
Since 1995, the Department of Health has linked data in Western Australia and facilitated access to integrated data for approved research. The Western Australian Data Linkage System is now one of the most comprehensive and high-quality linkage systems worldwide.
The WA Health Data Linkage Strategy 2025–30,shaped by a comprehensive analysis of the strategic landscape and insights from stakeholder consultation, outlines our plan to position Western Australia as the national leader in secure, trusted and transformative data linkage. It covers building capability, emerging technology, new opportunities, security, and importantly, ethical and cultural considerations for data practices in relation to Aboriginal Data Sovereignty.
Our reform program supports large-scale research translation and fosters innovation to address complex health challenges, supporting the delivery of data that accelerates discovery, enables smarter health systems, and drives better lives for Western Australians and the broader Australian population.
