Ethics support on the way for researchers in public hospitals 24 March 2025 WA Health is streamlining its ethical review and governance process for medical research to provide greater consistency across the system. The move to a centralised system commenced in February 2024 and aims to reduce the time it takes for a research project to obtain human research ethics approval. The Department’s Research Data, Ethics and Governance Services A/Manager Dr Lesley Banfield said the transition was scheduled to be complete by mid-2025.

Digital technologies deliver personalised connected health care 24 March 2025 Innovators advancing digital healthcare are sharing in more than $4 million in Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund grants. The 14 recipients of Innovative Solutions – Digital Health program grants include Professor Girish Dwivedi’s team from Fiona Stanley Hospital. The project received almost $500,000 to research development of the personalised health platform, Orva, featuring the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine.

Enhancing diagnoses and treatments for sick kids 24 March 2025 The next round of WA Child Research Fund opportunities to improve the health of children and adolescents in Western Australia opens in April. Since its inception in 2012, the Fund has awarded 160 grants valued at $46.8 million in a joint contribution between the Telethon Trust and Department of Health.
