The Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) last week participated in the 2026 BioInnovation Festival, a multi‑day event bringing together local, national and international leaders across health, medical research, biotechnology and investment.

Held across Perth and the South West, the Festival program featured the flagship BioInnovation Conference and Dinner, alongside a series of sector‑focused events designed to strengthen collaboration, investment and translation across Western Australia’s life sciences ecosystem.

As part of the Festival program, OMRI’s Director of Innovation Adam James spoke at the Investor Breakfast, highlighting the WA Government’s role in supporting early‑stage innovation and improving pathways from idea to impact.

In his remarks, Adam outlined OMRI’s work to reduce the time to conviction for investors, including:

  • Building a strong and visible talent pool across health and medical innovation
  • Underwriting early‑stage innovation through initiatives such as the Innovation Seed Fund
  • Creating a more navigable ecosystem, designed to optimise for speed of execution and reduce friction for founders, researchers and investors

The Festival also provided an opportunity to hear from the Minister for Medical Research, venture capital leaders including FHRI Fund supported VC Artesian, and a broad mix of local, national and international contributors shaping the future of health and medical innovation.

OMRI’s involvement reflects its vital role in health and medical research and innovation in Western Australia, and its ongoing focus on building an ecosystem that supports translation, investment readiness and real‑world impact.
