WA innovation recognised on global stage through Prix Galien nomination
Perth-based medtech company OncoRes Medical has been recognised on the international stage, receiving a nomination in the prestigious 2026 Prix Galien USA Awards, one of the world's leading awards programs for health and medical innovation.
Nominated in the Best Startup category, OncoRes Medical is developing imaging technology designed to help surgeons identify and remove cancer more precisely during surgery, with the potential to improve outcomes for patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.
The recognition reflects both the success of a WA-founded company and the growing strength of Western Australia's health and medical innovation sector. Founded in Perth, OncoRes Medical collaborates with researchers, clinicians and organisations including The University of Western Australia, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and WA Health clinicians to translate research into real-world healthcare solutions.
OncoRes Medical has previously received support through Western Australia's innovation ecosystem, including Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) funding in 2023, and has been recognised within the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub (WALSIH) network of companies advancing health and medical technologies with global potential.
Published earlier this year, the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub Impact Report highlights OncoRes Medical among a growing group of innovative local companies benefiting from initiatives designed to accelerate commercialisation, strengthen advanced manufacturing capability and create pathways to national and international markets.
International recognition through programs such as the Prix Galien Awards demonstrates the importance of supporting researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs to translate ideas into technologies that can improve health outcomes while growing Western Australia's life sciences sector.
Winners of the 2026 Prix Galien USA Awards will be announced in New York on 29 October 2026.
